Psychosocial support for older people... navigating ageing, illness and loss. Delivered under clinical supports, which means no contribution from you.
Your package covers a great deal. Someone to help with the house. Nurses for the wound, the medication, the equipment. All of it necessary, all of it practical.
What it doesn't cover is the adjustment itself. A body that has changed and didn't ask your permission. Relationships finding a new shape. A diagnosis you are still absorbing, months after everyone else has moved on from the news.
That is what these sessions are for. Not to be brave in. Just to be honest in.
There is no cost to you. Counselling sits under clinical supports, which carry no participant contribution, so your sessions are fully funded under your package.

In your own home, wherever you are most comfortable, or by video if you would rather not have another person at the door. Fifty minutes. As often as suits you and your package.
Family can be part of it if you want them there, and not if you don't. Nothing you say gets passed on without your say so.
In-home visits beyond the Hervey Bay city area by arrangement.
Practical supports keep the household running and clinical services treat the condition. What remains is the adjustment itself: a changed body, relationships finding new shape, a diagnosis still being absorbed. This is where counselling works, in partnership with the care team.
The work follows the participant's own goals and takes on the barriers that are not physical: confidence, tolerance of distress, and authority over decisions about their own care.
Counselling is evidence-informed, drawing on acceptance and commitment therapy and on meaning-centred and dignity-informed approaches developed for living alongside chronic and serious illness, integrated with nervous system regulation, breathwork and therapeutic movement where clinically appropriate.
A background in neuroscience and pathology (BMedSci) means sessions address both the cognitive and physiological dimensions of adjustment, meeting the participant where they are that day.

Older people living with chronic, serious or life-limiting illness, functional decline or bereavement.
